Is your cheap bankruptcy attorney doing what you need?

BarCamp AMS 2005 Opening - 35Have you ever wondered what your cheap bankruptcy attorney is really doing for you?   You worked real hard to find the most inexpensive lawyer to file for bankruptcy.  During your search did you notice that the noise from these guys is all the same?

  • Stop collection calls
  • Stop Garnishment
  • Stop Foreclosure
  • Stop Lawsuits
  • Stop Harassment
  • Stop this
  • Stop that
  • Stop everything
  • Stop nothing

What do they really stop?  Not much.  Here’s why:

How do they get you to become a client?  Being cheaper than everyone else of course.  They want to be your cheap bankruptcy attorney for fixing your debt problems.  Do you really think that low price is the answer, especially for something as important as choosing the lawyer to represent you in federal court?  Isn’t taking advantage of low price part of what got you here?  You see a “deal.”  You whip out your trusty credit card to take advantage of it even though it is not what you needed in the first place.

How do bankruptcy attorneys compete with each other based on price?  I know.  I used to work like that.  All I did was slice the services to the client to the bare bone.  You want a bankruptcy?  You pay for a bankruptcy and that is all you get.  Collection agencies calling you?  Too bad.  Lawsuits or garnishments filed?  Oh well.  Once the case is filed the court grants an automatic stay.  That will clear up these things…slowly, eventually.  The bankruptcy will stop things, not your cheap bankruptcy attorney.  Is this really all you want your bankruptcy attorney to do for you?

The whole process of admitting that you need help with your bills against the background of unending pressure from the bill collectors on one hand, and your spouse, parent or boss on the other demanding you do something is scary, stressful and exhausting.  You need help.  You need a partner.  You need someone who has your back, and not just once the case goes to court.

That is why at the Balena Law Firm debt relief is a process.  A process that begins the moment you decide it is time to retake control of your life, and choose me as your bankruptcy lawyer.  I start right off by letting the immediate source of your pain know that we are in your corner and they need to stop what they are doing.  I fax the collectors.  Room to breathe.  What a concept!  Worth paying for?  You bet!

I then follow through to make sure I have the most up to date information for completing your bankruptcy case.  If there is any delay, it is normally on your end getting documents.  This website is no accident either.  I write articles addressing pressing concerns you might have, both before and after you file for bankruptcy.  I want you to be as well informed as I can make you.

Once the bankruptcy case is filed, I fax letters to your payroll department to stop pay garnishments.  I file the necessary papers with courts to notify them of the bankruptcy to halt court proceedings.  I concentrate on value to you.

The lawyers worried about low price leave it to you to do these critical things.  I read so many times in the bankruptcy forums where people just like you lament the fact that their “bankruptcy lawyer” left them to swing  in the breeze when it came to stopping the collections.

  1. [...] for a lawyer, prospective clients are so concerned with price that to save a few bucks they hire an incompetent clown. When a capable lawyer comes along they ignore sound advice, and drop thousands in tax refund [...]

  2. Paying your lawyer a few hundred dollars more than what the “cheap lawyer” charges is not really all that much when you’re getting rid of tens of thousands worth of debt. Especially when that little bit extra is the difference in a successful case that gets you a true fresh start instead of a half-way case that ends up being full of problems.

  3. Great post. Clients who are already having a hard time paying their bills often look for the cheapest lawyer they can find. In the bankruptcy area, cheaper generally translates to less experience, fewer services, and less, if any, time with a lawyer.
